‘Madras Cafe’ sees jump in collections and ‘Chennai Express’ grosses 211 crores at box-office

Shoojit Sircar’s latest Hindi movie “Madras Cafe” has grossed a total of about Rs 4.75 crore on its opening day. The movie had received positive reviews which may be working in its favour.

The John Abraham starrer film managed a decent 30-35 percent jump in collections at the multiplexes on Saturday. The movie achieved what Nikhil Advani’s “D-Day” could not.

The movie has further improved on Sunday collections earning Rs 9 crore and netting an approximate Rs 20 crore during the opening weekend itself.

Made on a budget of 35 crore, “Madras Cafe” is expected to be profitable venture for Viacom 18 with reasonable stable collections during weekdays. However next weeks “Satyagraha” which is a political drama may give stiff competition to the movie.

Rohit Shetty’s “Chennai Express” is still continuing its record journey at the box-office but at a slower pace. The movie has netted Rs 206.28 cr from India (Rs 300 cr worldwide gross) in just three weeks.

It is still running behind “3 idiots” record of highest grossing Bollywood movie. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that “Chennai Express” is highest grosser in UAE-GCC with almost $ 3.9 million [Rs 24.71 cr].
