It was an in and out Gayle show in Canberra as the Jamaican hit the first ever World Cup double century in its history of 11 editions.
The man was in full swing in the pool B match against Zimbabwe, and he scored a mammoth 215 runs off 147 balls before getting out in the last ball of the innings.
With the help of the scintillating knock from Gayle, West Indies ended their innings in a score of 372 runs with the loss of two wickets.

Marlon Samuels also hit a ton, and he gave sufficient help for Gayle in building the innings.
Both Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels built their innings in a slow yet steady manner. West Indies lost their first wicket of Dwayne Smith in the third ball of the innings, and from then they had nothing to turn back.
Chris Gayle, the 35 year old left handed batsman hit a dashing boundary in a Chatara delivery to pass the 200 run mark in 138 balls. In his innings of 215 runs, the Jamaican hit 10 boundaries and 16 maximums.

Through this innings, Chris Gayle surpassed the previous World Cup Best of 188 un beaten by South Africa’s Gary Kirsten against U A E at Rawalpindi in 1996.
This is the only double century hit by a non Indian in ODI Cricket. The previous double centuries in One Day Cricket was by Sachin Tendulkar, Virendar Sehwag and Rohit Sharma.
The West Indian batsman coincidentally hit the double century exactly on the day when Sachin Tendulkar hit the first ever double hundred in One Day Internationals five years back against South Africa.
