Officials say at least three people died and numerous more were seriously hurt in a cable-car mishap at Trikut hills in Jharkhand’s Deoghar area on Sunday, with a risky rescue team comprising two Air Force helicopters still underway to evacuate others trapped on the ropeway. According to news agency PTI, some 27 individuals were recovered, and at least 20 others were still seeking to be evacuated 24 hours later.

Current Status of the Situation

Rescue activities have been paused due to the darkness and will continue the evacuation in the morning. According to PTI, after the tragedy, the ropeway manager and other private firm workers deserted the scene. According to the report, two people who jumped were severely wounded.

Assistant commandant Vinay Kumar Singh of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who is on the location, claimed that drones are being used to serve water and food to the stranded people.

An official stated that the mishap appeared to have occurred by an operational glitch but that the actual explanation has yet to be determined.

Rescue Teams and Authorities present on the spot

Several operations personnel are being sent to the spot for rescue, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). An NDRF team was also present at the scene of the incident for the rescue mission, according to Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri.

Subhash Chandra Jat, both the DC and Superintendent of Police, are both present at the location supervising the recovery effort by the team. Apart from the supervision of authorities and officials, regional people also assist in the rescue operation with great efforts.

The DC has urged people not to circulate rumors or misinformation about the situation. The issue has been brought under suitable regulation. Some tourists are still trapped in the ropeway’s cable cars, and they are being saved. All tourists are being securely evacuated one by one by the team, cited the DC.
