Jodie Comer And Jessica Chastain Are Among The Latest Tony Award Nominees

Jodie Comer, who plays Eve in Killing Eve, has been nominated for a Tony award for her performance in Prima Facie, a one-woman drama. The British actress is one of four nominees for the best leading actress in a Play prize, along with Jessica Chastain, an Oscar winner.

The Nominees

As per The Guardian, Comer will compete for the award for best actress against Audra McDonald (Ohio State Murders), Jessica Hecht (Summer, 1976), and Jessica Chastain, who won for her performance in A Doll’s House, which premiered on Broadway in March after Covid ruined its London run.

Suzie Miller’s play Prima Facie didn’t receive a nomination for best play. Leopoldstadt by Tom Stoppard will go up against Ain’t No Mo’ by Jordan E. Cooper, Between Riverside and Crazy by Stephen Adly Guirgis, Cost of Living by Martyna Majok, and Fat Ham by James Ijames in that category. For best directing of a play, three British directors—Jamie Lloyd for A Doll’s House, Patrick Marber for Leopoldstadt, and Max Webster for Life of Pi—were nominated, along with Saheem Ali for Fat Ham, Jo Bonney for Cost of Living, and Stevie Walker-Webb for Ain’t No Mo.

Jessica Chastain’s First Nomination

Jessica Chastain received her first Tony Award nomination for her work in the drama A Doll’s House. On Tuesday morning, CBS Mornings revealed the nominations for six categories, including Best Actress. As the Tony Awards’ longstanding broadcaster, the network was permitted to make the announcement. A Doll’s House, which centers on the Norwegian Helmer Family in the 1870s, has been hailed as a pioneering work of feminism. Chastain portrays Nora, Torvald’s wife, who laments the lack of opportunity and potential for fulfillment in a society where males predominate.
