‘Stranger Things’ Season 4: Is Max Mayfield Dead?
In this two-part series, the citizens of Hawkins faced their most formidable opponent, Beckna (Jamie Campbell Bower). The villain’s origins in Volume 1 were all revealed in the finale of the Netflix hit, and the episode’s events had devastating consequences for Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink).
The residents of Hawkins and especially Max decided to go up against Vecna with a well-devised plan which saw Max draw and try out Vecna in the real world by putting aside her life-saving “Kate Bush” music. As she does this, Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) head into the form of
Upside Down to attack the villain, while Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) and Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) try to distract the creatures of the other world.
Max, on the other hand, was successful in getting Vecna’s attention, and he propels her into a world of her own affliction that she tries to navigate. Although she is able to dodge him for a time, Vecna later eventually catches up.
Eleven succeeds at first, but Vecna locks her into the Den of Mind and starts killing Max in front of her. Max begins to float in the real world, the creature breaks her arms and legs, and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) fights Jason Carver (Mason Dy) to help her.
Eleven frees Vecna to prevent Max from ending and gives Steve, Nancy, and Robin a chance to attack the villain upside down. Max eventually returns to the real world, but Vecna’s vandalism is so great that she ultimately dies in Lucas’ arms while Eleven watches her crucial psychic powers.
