Will Nawaz Sharif’s India Visit Better Indo-Pak Cricketing Affairs?

With Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visiting India on May 26 for the swearing-in ceremony of India’s new Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is a strong hope that Indo-Pak cricket relations may have good days in future.

Nawaz Sharif’s India Visit

According to a report published in NDTV, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Najam Sethi had briefed Sharif on the current condition of cricketing affairs between both the countries.

Sharif was in India yesterday, and later he held a meeting Narendra Modi, the current Prime Minister, and Pranab Mukherjee, President of India.

A source was quoted saying, “Najam Sethi briefed him in detail about the existing relations and also about a MOU signed with the Indian cricket board to play six bilateral series between 2015 and 2022 with the first one expected to happen next year.”

Pakistan will host four of the six bilateral series as planned. Indian hasn’t played Test bilateral series in the neighboring country for almost seven years, following the last in 2007.

On May 25, PCB chairman Sethi told the reporters that the meeting was encouraging and also confirmed his briefing to the PM with regards to cricket relations, with the intention of restoring bilateral matches between India and Pakistan again.

Sharif, on the other hand, is a fan of the game himself and had after his swearing in ceremony to power had mentioned the need to use Cricket in public for better ties between the two neighboring nations.

Sethi also was quoted saying, “PM Nawaz Sharif agreed on the proposal for holding elections in the board at the earliest”.
