New Yorkers With Low Incomes Are Eligible For $500 Stimulus Payments

In only a few months, hundreds of Rochester, New York, citizens who are low-income will start receiving $500 recurring payments.

In a statement, city authorities said that the GBI program would “give underprivileged areas crucial resources & help to decrease the community’s wealth gap while enhancing our citizens’ capacity to become homeowners.”

The county council’s vote last year to allot a total of $2.2 million for the program made the guaranteed income trial program possible.

The program only accepts applicants whose income is at or less than 200 percent of the federal poverty threshold. An official from Rochester confirmed to The Center Square that starting in early 2023, a separate group of residents of 175 people will get $500 payouts, reports Sun.
