Pope Francis Makes Gradual Recovery After Getting Admitted For Respiratory Infection

After getting admitted to the hospital for some breathing problems on Wednesday, Pope Francis is recovering well, as per reports of Thursday, March 30.

Pope’s recovery

The Pope was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after complaining of respiratory issues, prompting additional concerns about the condition of the 86-year-old pontiff, afflicted with several ailments. After presiding over the regular General Audience, he was taken to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

On Thursday, The Vatican news said that Pope Francis had a good night’s sleep and was improving. However, this latest episode made people wonder if he could participate in the coming Holy Week celebrations.

The Pope had seemed to be in relatively good health during his regularly scheduled public audience on Wednesday before he was sent to the hospital, albeit he grimaced noticeably getting into and out of the popemobile.

Francis’ History Of Health Issues

Before Wednesday, Francis had stayed at the Gemelli hospital for ten days in July 2021 to have 33 centimeters (13 inches) of his colon removed. He claimed shortly after the procedure that he had healed and could eat well.

However, the Pope claimed that his diverticulosis, or bulges in the intestinal wall, had resurfaced in an interview with The Associated Press on January 24.

Francis has been using a wheelchair for over a year due to strained ligaments in his right knee and a minor knee fracture. He claims to have postponed getting surgery for his knee issues as during his 2021 intestinal surgery under general anesthesia he reacted to the process poorly.
