Some states are considering sending out stimulus checks in 2023. For example, California is considering sending out a Golden State Stimulus II check to eligible residents. The amount of the check would be $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples. The deadline to file a 2020 tax return in California is October 17, 2023, so the checks would likely not be sent out until after that dat

As of August 19, 2023, there are only 5 states that are still sending out stimulus checks:

  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • New Mexico

These states are sending out the checks in the form of income tax rebates or property tax rebates. The amounts of the checks vary by state and by individual taxpayer’s income.

  • Idaho: Up to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples filing jointly.
  • Illinois: Up to $50 for individuals and $100 for couples filing jointly, plus a $300 property tax rebate.
  • Massachusetts: Up to $250 for individuals and $500 for couples filing jointly.
  • Montana: Up to $1,350 for homeowners.
  • New Mexico: Up to $875 for individuals and $1,750 for couples filing jointly.

It is important to note that not all residents of these states will be eligible to receive a stimulus check. The eligibility requirements vary by state. For example, in Illinois, you must have filed your 2021 state income tax return by May 31, 2023, and your adjusted gross income must be less than $200,000 for single filers or $400,000 for married couples filing jointly.
