North Korea says it conducted 'tactical nuclear attack' drill

North Korea is conducting a simulated tactical nuclear strike exercise involving two long-range submarines aimed at “warning the enemy” that the country is ready for nuclear war, KCNA said on Sunday.

KCNA said Saturday’s exercise concluded with two cruise ships carrying ballistic missiles into South Korea’s West Sea and flying for 1,500 miles (930 kilometers) at an altitude of 150 meters.

Pyongyang also said it would increase military defense against the United States and South Korea.

South Korean military was quoted as saying by Seoul’s Yonhap news agency that claims of success could be exaggerated as “not all were successful” among the Senior Leaders’ Leadership.

KCNA also reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the Pukjung Machinery Complex, which produces marine engines, and a weapons factory, emphasizing the importance of increasing Pyongyang’s military strength.

“It has been confirmed that the next meeting of the Central Committee of Korean Workers will make important recommendations for the reform and direction of the shipbuilding industry,” KCNA said.

Did not specify the date of the visit.

The latest missile test came after South Korea and the United States conducted their annual joint exercise called “Ulchi Freedom Shield”.

The store is closed on Thursdays. These included aerial maneuvers with B-1B bombers.

North Korea has stepped up its military presence against Washington and Seoul, and criticized the agreement reached last month to enhance military cooperation between the two countries.

KCNA said on August 21 that Kim Jong-un had recently inspected navy ships off the east coast, monitoring the ship’s missile tests, and that the ship would maintain its combat strength in combat.
