According to CNBC, this proposal given by Meta is a result to the European Union’s rules regarding advertisements. In countries of the European Union, consent is required to show personalized advertisements. This policy can have a big effect on the advertisement, which is Meta’s main income source. So, to counter this and keep their revenue generated, Meta is playing to charge a fee to their European Users. Meta is telling the European regulators that it is planning to introduce “SNA”. It is a Subscription with No Ads, which will be for their European Users.

For this, they’ll charge some amount to give their users an ad-free experience if they don’t want to see any ad. For those who don’t want to pay, their experience will be with Ads for those, they will have to give their consent. Meta will charge €10 a month for the desktop version of their apps. For more account likes, they’ll have to pay around €6 for each one. This move can be a big turn regarding how social media companies run their businesses. Meta is trying to keep their revenue running by bringing this scheme.
