‘Onmyoji’ An Heian-era Fantasy Anime To Be The Next New Netflix Original

'Onmyoji' An Heian-era Fantasy Anime To Be The Next New Netflix Original

A new anime series by Netflix as its next original project may soon be launched. This anime series is named “Onmyoji,” the first adaptation from a popular Japanese historical fantasy book series. Studio Marvy Jack is making it, and we can expect it to appear on November 28, 2023.

However, the anime seems to have some difficulty as it is similar to a video game with the same name. Also, since it is studio Marvy Jack’s first production, it must meet the fan’s expectations.

“Onmyoji” Reliving The Heian-era Japan Back To TV

We all know Aleister Crowley, who is popular as a “real life” wizard in Western media, but you might not know that Abe Seimei is a widely recognized character in Japanese fiction portrayed as a pseudo-historical sorcerer. Seimei has appeared in fantasy works, including the short stories written by Baku Yumemakura that serve as the basis for the new anime.

“Onmyoji” has been around since 1986, and between 2000 and 2008, Yumemakura also authored three novels within the franchise. There have been live-action adaptations and even a manga. An anime adaptation hasn’t been created until now. Despite “Onmyoji”s popularity in Japan, Netflix is taking a gamble on its potential for recognition.

The Obstructions For “Onmyoji”

The main issue here is that there exists another game called “Onmyoji” from 2016. It revolves around Abe Seimei. Has evolved into a successful franchise. There’s a possibility that people might assume this new show is based on the game.

Marvy Jack is taking a gamble with this series. Although they’ve been in the industry since 2003, their previous work mainly involved assisting studios with background art and key animation.

Nevertheless, the trailer for this show looks promising. The animation and artwork display impressive quality. It offers everything anime fans enjoy, including captivating action sequences and intriguing characters.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding a studio and an unfamiliar audience, the trailer for “Onmyoji” has generated excitement due to its captivating battles and exorcisms. If it succeeds, it will mark the anime adaptation of this novel series.
