Mewaram Jain was suspended from the Indian National Congress party on January 7, 2024. The suspension came after a series of allegations against him, including:
- Being accused of rape and molestation: A woman filed a case in December 2023, accusing Jain and eight others of raping and molesting her adolescent daughter two years ago.
- Viral obscene videos: Two video clips allegedly featuring Jain in an obscene act went viral on social media.
The Rajasthan Congress unit president, Govind Singh Dotasra, issued the suspension order, stating that Jain’s actions were a “clear indication of breach of discipline under the constitution of the Congress party.”

“Mewaram Jain (Ex-MLA, Barmer) has been suspended from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect in view of his involvement in immoral activities which is a clear indication of a breach of discipline under the constitution of the Congress Party”, said the letter issued by Dotasara.
Recently two sex videos of Mewaram have been widely circulated and shared on social media platforms.
Jain, a former MLA from Barmer, has denied all the allegations against him. He has claimed that the videos are doctored and that he is being falsely implicated.
The ED office in Jaipur had also registered a PMLA case against Mewaram on November 20 last year based on a complaint regarding transactions worth about ₹5 crore. The ED also used a dealing of Rs 50 lakh as the source for the blackmail case at Kotwali police station.
The suspension of Jain is a major setback for the Congress party, which is already facing challenges in the upcoming state elections in Rajasthan. The party has been criticized for not taking action against Jain sooner, and some members have called for his expulsion.
