Ravichandran Ashwin’s support was just as good, he ended up with four wickets including the key dismissal of Jonny Bairstow.

The English middle order fell like dominoes, and they were simply bowled out for 218. Kuldeep Yadav was at the peak of his powers when he finished with a magnificent five-wicket haul.

Session 3: India’s Well-conceived Response

By ball India dominated; and with bat, they did not lose the moment. It started with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal who laid a strong foundation for the hosts.

Rohit Sharma, the captain, also displayed his leadership skills, as he played with a calm half-century to the front. Jaiswal laid down the foundation of the innings by scoring his fifty. Shubman Gill also chipped in to close the day’s proceedings with India at 135/1, in the driving seat.

By the end of the first day of the Test, India is in the lead despite being behind by just 63 runs. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and the spinners’ superiority have taken India to the driver’s seat. It is going to be a thrilling Day 2 at Dharamsala as the battle lines are drawn.
