After the crowning of Sushmita Sen in 1994 and then Lara Dutta in 2000, it’s been 21 years since the Miss Universe crown came to India.
Finally, Harnaaz Sandhu made India proud by winning the 70th Miss Universe pageant!
The diva celebrated her win in Punjabi Desi style by exclaiming “Chak de fatte India!”
The Miss Universe pageant was held at Eilat in Israel and was live-streamed globally. The 21-year-old model actress from Chandigarh aced the challenges with her astounding intelligence and sheer elegance.
Harnaz took to her Instagram handle and posted, “Shallom, Thankyou from the bottom of my heart ISRAEL for hosting the 70th edition of Miss Universe in your beautiful country, the Holy Land. It’s a pleasure and honour for me to witness the great historic places in Jerusalem and Marvellous hotels in Eilat, can’t wait to come back again in Israel , Toda ??✨ ‘Escape from the sun’”

The Last round that won the crown for India
Harnaaz Sandhu won the title of Miss Universe 2021 among the first runner-up Nadia Ferriera of Prague and second runner-up Laleta Mswane of South Africa.
She claimed the beautiful crown presented by former Miss Universe 2020, Andrea Meza from Mexico.

To qualify for the last round and enter in the top 3, she was asked
“What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?”
To this, she answered, The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today.”
The question that grabbed everyone’s attention and got her through the top 5 was
“Many people think climate change is a hoax, what would you do to convince them otherwise?”
She smartly replied to this and stated
“My heart breaks to see how nature is going through a lot of problems, and it is all due to our irresponsible behavior. I totally feel that this is the time to take action and talk less. Because our every action could save or kill nature. Preventing and protecting is better than repent and repair and this is what I am trying to convince you guys today.”

The Journey from Chandigarh to represent India
Harnaaz Sandhu took her first step in her pageant journey in 2017 by winning ‘Times Fresh Face’. She went on to be adorned with titles like Femina Miss India Punjab in 2019.
She also worked in Punjabi movies like “Yaara Dujan Poo Baran” and “Bai ji Kuttange”.
