England vs India: India win 3rd ODI at Nottingham

India take on England in the third ODI at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Saturday, 30 Aug, 2014. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 local time (09:30 GMT) i.e. 15:00 IST. Indian captain MS Dhoni would surely like to win the match and get an edge on the opposition.

After sustaining a fracture in the middle finger of his right hand, Indian batsman Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the third match on Friday. India is taking on England in five-match ODI(One-Day International) series and one Twenty20 International. Ambati Rayudu, Sanju Samson or Ajinkya Rahane may come in top order as an opener.

Murali Vijay, who was impressive in the Test series has been picked as Rohit’s replacement and will join the squad in England at the earliest. A BCCI press release stated that Rohit is going to miss the rest of the series.
All eyes are on Suresh Raina who was instrumental in leading Indian side to 133-run victory in the 2nd ODI at Cardiff with his hundred. Captain Dhoni said that sending Suresh Raina to bat at number five had paid rich dividends and this is not going to be changed in third ODI as well.

Winning the ODI series is crucial for India in their build-up to the 2015 World Cup. Players will be tested and various combinations tried out which will be crucial for picking the world cup squad. Suresh Raina has to prove that his ton is not a one-match thing and he can be dependable and show consistency.

India won the toss and Dhoni elected to bowl first. Ambati Rayudu has been chosen as replacement for Rohit Sharma in playing XI. Ajinkya Rahane has been chosen to open.

England made 227 runs in 50 overs losing all wickets. Chasing the target of 228, India scored so far 217 runs losing 4 wickets in 42 overs.

For Indian side Ambati Rayudu scored 60 runs and is playing for winning runs with Ravindra Jadeja who came after Suresh Raina was out.

Update:

India wins the 3rd ODI match defeating England by 6 wickets, leading the  five-match series 2-0. Rayudu scores an unbeaten 64. Dhoni now equals Azhar’s record (90) for most wins by an India captain in ODIs.
