Hindi movie, “Grand Masti” directed by Indra Kumar has been released on September 13, 2013. The adult comedy movie made on a budget of Rs 20 cr is released in more than 2000 screens in India.
The movie is a sequel to the 2004 hit movie titled “Masti” and has stars from the prequel Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab reprising their roles.
The movie had an excellent occupancy rate in India’s single screens and multiplexes of 60-70 percent. The box-office collections of 1st day is said to be around 12.50 crores.
Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#GrandMasti *early trends* suggest 12.5 cr start on Friday… A grand start indeed… Expecting weekend to be in 37 cr to 40 cr range.”
Actresses like Bruna Abdullah, Karishma Tanna, Sonali Kulkarni, Manjari Fadnis and Kainaat Arora are playing the lead roles. The movie is written by Milap Zaveri and Tushar Hiranandani with music by Anand Raj Anand and Sanjeev Darshan.
The movie is an Indianised version of American Pie and has been banned in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh due to its degrading dialogues and obscene scenes.
Rediff.com in its review called the movie as unbearable and obnoxious. OneIndia criticised the movie for going overboard with dirty jokes and one-liners.
Other Hindi movies releasing this week include “John Day” and “Horror Story”. “Grand Masti” is however expected to do better due to its multiple star cast and the adult humour.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Data pouring in… #GrandMasti is off to a grand start… Easily amongst the Top 5 openers of 2013 thus far… Incredible!”
The movie collected Rs 12.50 crores on the 1st day, Friday and on day 2, Saturday, the earning were at Rs. 13.5 crores. Rs 26 crore collections in two days. “Grand Masti” is moving towards a grand qst weekend collection of Rs 40 crore plus.
