India vs Australia WTC Final 2023: Carey leads Australia to set India a mammoth target of 444. India was 23 for one at stumps, needing 421 more runs to lift the World Test Championship trophy.
Carey scored an unbeaten 66 and shared a 73-run stand with Starc (41) to take Australia to 270 for eight before declaring. Jadeja was the most successful bowler for India with three wickets.
Earlier, India were bowled out for 296 in their first innings, conceding a lead of 173 runs to Australia. Australia had scored 469 in their first innings on the back of centuries from Warner and Smith.
Mitchell Starc was promoted to No.8, presumably to take on Jadeja, but he hasn’t looked to take on the spinner yet. Carey and Starc saw Australia through to Lunch with the lead at a seemingly out-of-reach 374, and it is likely that the declaration will come in the second session.
