When I Fell in Love

A song written by Victor Young and Edward Heyman, Cole released his version of the song and it became a hit. Cole’s brother Freddie said – “one memorable feature of Nat’s singing was how well he enunciated words in songs.”

Singer Suzi Quatro said – “The first time I heard this, I was very impressionable. I was about ten and that was the first proper love song I heard. I used to sit in my sister’s room and listen to it and cry.” The singer defines the song as one of the most happening moments of her childhood when she heard it for the first time.

Almost Like Being In Love

Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe originally wrote “Almost Like Being In Love” for the 40s musical Brigadoon. Cole loved the tune of the song and recorded his version. Cole’s version later became a part of several films. Cole’s version was featured as the closing song in the 1993 movie ‘Groundhog Day’.

“Most songs have the same story – about love and you’re either winning or losing”, said Cole.

The Christmas Song

The song was co-written by famous crooner Mel Tormé and Bob Wells. They initially took the song to a publishing house but were turned down. After that, both of them decided to present their song to Nat King Cole.
Tormé’s youngest son, James said – They then drove over to Nat King Cole, who was exploding in popularity at the time. They played it and he asked them to play it again. ‘Stop everything, that’s my song,’ he said.”
The song became one of the most famous and loved songs of Cole and also a part of Christmas.

Too Young

The lyrics of the song were written by novelist Sylvia Dee. The song ranked no 1 for five weeks straight and Billboard declared it the top song of 1951. The song was a personal favorite of Cole and he described it as perhaps his favorite of all songs that he has recorded.
