Pakistan are set to play their fourth match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Tuesday at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. Pakistan are currently sitting at the top of the points table in Group 2. They have been nothing short of outstanding in the competition.
Babar Azam and Co. began their campaign with a 10-wicket win over India and this was followed by two consecutive wins against New Zealand and Afghanistan. Pakistan have beaten the three toughest sides and are likely to finish the Super 12 stage unbeaten.
In their last game against Afghanistan, Pakistan put on yet another brilliant performance with the ball to restrict Afghanistan to 147 runs in the first innings. Imad Wasim and Shaheen Shah Afridi were, once again, brilliant with the ball.
Imad Wasim was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 25 in 4 overs. Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali, however, went for over 9 runs an over. Pakistan although wouldn’t worry too much on that for now. Babar Azam (51 off 47) and Fakhar Zaman (30 off 25) set the tone for the chase. However, they needed a brilliant finish to win the match.
Mohammad Hafeez (10 off 10) and Shoaib Malik (19 off 15) made crucial contributions but they got out at the wrong time. Pakistan needed 24 runs off the final two overs and, once again, Asif Ali came to their rescue. He smashed four sixes in the penultimate over to win the game for the side with an over left in the end.
On the other hand, Namibia suffered their first defeat of the Super 12 stage in their last game against Afghanistan on Sunday. They would be disappointed and be hoping that they come back stronger. Riding on significant knocks from Zazai, Shahzad, Asghar Afghan and M Nabi, Afghanistan posted a 160-run total in the first innings.
Namibia, in reply, were bundled out for a paltry 98-run total. None of the batsmen showed any resilience at the crease as they succumbed to an impressive bowling display from the Afghanistan bowlers.
David Wiese top-scored with 26 off 30 balls, including 2 fours. Namibia would be hoping that they exhibit a better show with bat and ball in the next game against Pakistan. Chances though are highly unlikely.
