Chris Lynn’s catch drags victory from RCB’s hands

24-year-old Aussie Chris Lynn, who came in place of Shakib Al Hasan playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders produced one of IPL’s greatest ever moments with two balls to go. KKR bowled superbly defending a moderate score of 150.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to bowl first against Kolkata Knight Riders at Sharjah. Batting first, Kolkata scored 150 for 7 despite Varun Aaron’s expensive three-wicket burst after a disastrous start of losing skipper Gambhir for a duck third time in a row.

Victory seemed improbable over the Royal Challengers Bangalore for KKR as Bangalore started off blazingly with Yogesh Takawale (40) and Parthiv Patel (21) batting aggressively. Captain Virat Kohli (31) and Yuvraj Singh (31) played in a calculated manner. At one stage RCB needed 64 runs to win with eight wickets in hand.

Needing nine runs off the last over, RCB could only manage seven due to R Vinay Kumar’s excellent bowling and Lynn’s excellent catch. Chris Lynn, who had smashed a 31-ball 45 during KKR’s innings, stretched his body backwards to catch AB de Villiers attempt to score a boundary at the deep midwicket fence pulling off a blinder.

The dramatic catch by Chris Lynn on the boundary not only dismissed RCB’s AB de Villiers, but also was the defining moment in KKR’s two-run win at IPL match in Sharjah. Watch it here.
