A Thai man named Patthawikorn Boonin recently made headlines after he claimed that he won a 2,000 baht (around $59) prize from the Thai Government Lottery Office on April 1 by using a set of numbers generated by an AI chatbot called ChatGPT.

When asked to make predictions, it replies that it is unpredictable and a matter of luck. So how did Patthawikorn manage to get the winning number from ChatGPT?

According to his Facebook post, Patthawikorn asked ChatGPT about the lottery winning numbers several times. He tried different ways of phrasing his question, such as inputting hypothetical situations and historical statistics of winning numbers from the past ten years.

The chatbot gave him a calculating formula and four two-digit pairs: 57, 27, 29, and 99. Patthawikorn decided to play these numbers in the lottery, and to his surprise, one of them matched the result: 99.

Patthawikorn’s story has sparked much interest and curiosity among the Thai gambling community and beyond. Some people are excited about using ChatGPT to generate winning lottery numbers, while others are skeptical and think Patthawikorn was just lucky.

Experts have yet to explain how ChatGPT can provide the winning numbers. Still, they agree it is based on a pseudorandom number generator (PRNG) algorithm that simulates randomness using mathematical formulas. Therefore, it is not truly random and could be somewhat predictable by analyzing large amounts of data.

Regardless of the outcome, Patthawikorn’s story has highlighted the growing influence of AI in everyday life and its potential to change how we approach various activities, including gambling.
