Colombian Children Found Alive After 40 Days in Amazon Jungle

All Missing Children Found After 40 Days

According to Colombia‘s president, all four children who had been missing since the plane they were in crashed on May 1 were discovered alive after spending 40 days in the rainforest.

Updates So Far

President Gustavo Petro informed reporters upon his arrival back in Bogota from Cuba, where he signed a cease-fire deal with leaders of the National Liberation Army rebel group, that the youngsters were alone when searches discovered them and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The president declared the children “examples of survival” and stated that their tale “will remain in history.”

No information on how the kids survived independently for so long was immediately made public.

The Crash

The Cessna single-engine propeller plane carrying six people and a pilot made an emergency declaration due to an engine failure in the early hours of May 1. This was when the tragedy occurred.

Shortly after the little plane vanished from the radar, a desperate hunt for survivors started. The aircraft was discovered in a dense jungle area two weeks after the disaster, on May 16, and the remains of the three adults on board were retrieved, but the little children were not present.

Sensing they could still be alive, Colombia’s army intensified its search for the four siblings, aged 13, 9, 4, and 11 months, and flew 150 soldiers into the region with dogs to find them.

Numerous Indigenous tribal volunteers also contributed to the hunt.

As per ABC News, on Friday, the military posted photos of troops and volunteers smiling with the youngsters covered in warm blankets. One of the soldiers was photographed holding a bottle to the youngest’s mouth.
