Rurouni Kenshin: The Wandering Samurai Returns - A New Anime Series with an Opening Song

Rurouni Kenshin is a popular anime series that follows the adventures of a former assassin named Kenshin Himura in the Meiji era of Japan. He wanders the country as a rurouni (wanderer) and vows to never kill again, using a reverse-blade sword to protect the innocent.

The anime is based on the manga series by Nobuhiro Watsuki, which ran from 1994 to 1999. The anime adaptation was produced by Studio Gallop and Studio Deen, and aired from 1996 to 1998. It has 95 episodes, divided into three seasons: Wandering Samurai, Legend of Kyoto, and Tales of Meiji.

The anime has been praised for its historical accuracy, compelling characters, and action-packed scenes. It also explores themes such as redemption, justice, and love. The anime has a loyal fanbase and has spawned several spin-offs, movies, and live-action adaptations.

The new anime will be a continuation of the original series, covering the Hokkaido arc of the manga that was never animated before. The Hokkaido arc is the final arc of the manga, where Kenshin and his friends travel to Hokkaido to face a new enemy: Enishi Yukishiro, the brother of Kenshin’s deceased wife Tomoe.

The new anime will have a half-year run, starting from October 2023. It will feature a new opening song by LiSA, titled “Hokori” (Pride), and a new ending song by UVERworld, titled “Kimi no Koe” (Your Voice). The new anime will also introduce more cast members, such as:

– Enishi Yukishiro: voiced by Mamoru Miyano
– Tomoe Yukishiro: voiced by Maaya Sakamoto
– Ashitaro Hasegawa: voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
– Aran Inoue: voiced by Ayane Sakura
– Asahi Inoue: voiced by Inori Minase

The new anime will be directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, who also directed the original series. The script will be written by Mari Okada, who is known for her works such as Anohana and Maquia. The character designs will be done by Hiromitsu Hagiwara, who also worked on the Rurouni Kenshin live-action movies. The animation will be done by Sunrise, who also animated the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs.
