In the ongoing case concerning the harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a Member of Parliament from the BJP party, the accused has been granted interim bail by the Delhi Court. The bail application of Vinod Tomar, a suspended assistant secretary of WFI, was also accepted by the Court on the same day.
The presiding Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Harjeet Singh Jaspal, specified that Brij Bhushan’s bail was granted on Thursday, with a bond of ₹25,000 each, and subject to certain conditions.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal said that, “I am granting bail on a bond of ₹25,000 each with certain conditions,”
These conditions included instructions not to leave the country without the court’s permission and to refrain from engaging in any activities that might influence the witnesses related to the case.
The charges against Brij Bhushan, a six-time MP, were brought forward by the Delhi police and include various sections of the Indian Penal Code, such as sections 354, 354A, 354D, and section 506.
Initially, the plaintiffs’ counsel opposed the granting of bail, urging that if bail were to be granted, strict conditions must be imposed.
They also mentioned that witnesses had been approached in the past, although no direct threats were made. In response, Brij Bhushan’s counsel assured the court that he would comply with all the conditions set forth and pledged to cooperate fully during the proceedings.
In January 2023, Indian wrestlers began protesting for investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment of female wrestlers by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The female wrestler complainants had accused Bhushan of groping, touching breasts and navels without consent, stalking, intimidation, and demanding “sexual favours” in exchange for professional.
