3,000 Christmas-Eve Flights Cancelled Worldwide Due To Covid-19 Staffing Issues

This Christmas was bound to be dull with the soaring cases of Omicron. The United States of America is counting one the largest number of lining up cases of the new variant.

Thus, the stagnation of growing cases is urgently needed. With the Christmas holidays comes the convivial gatherings and merriment, but along with a possible infection.
Henceforth, according to the Flight Aware website as of Friday morning, the number of cancellations globally added up to more than 3,000.

The cancellation of flights is done to bring down the infection rate as the new variant is highly contaminating.

The Friday flights cancellations of flight agencies like-
Air Canada, JetBlue, WestJet and regional unit WestJet Encore had at least 20% of their flights scraped off the schedule.

The Delta Airlines

The Delta Air Lines of the United States stated that after exhaustion of all options and resources that included rerouting and substituting planes and crews to cover scheduled flights that it had cancelled about 135 flights for Friday.
The cancellations were subjected to “a combination of issues, including but not limited to, potential inclement weather in some areas and the impact of the Omicron variant.”

United Airlines

150 cancellations of flights from United Airlines which were scheduled to leave for dozens of airports on Friday. It also included 44 more that was supposed to head off on Saturday.

Chinese airlines

China has seen the latest outbreak from the new infectious variant, Omicron. The Chinese officials are held responsible for the new outbreak.
Due to this, around 60 percent of flights to the two main airports in Xi’an and Lanzhou have been cancelled.
Residents are advised by government officials to leave their homes only if necessary.
