Virginia Direct Payments: Check if you are eligible for checks up to $500?

Virginia citizens who filed their taxes before November 1 are in line to receive up to 500-dollar payments at the end of the year as Governor Glenn Youngkin has said that Virginians are facing high inflation and prices due to the policies set in Washington and called it the main reason to help families lower the cost of living a little bit.

“Past administrations have overtaxed Virginians, and by returning taxpayer money to Virginia’s taxpayers, we are ensuring that hard-working Virginians get to keep more of their paycheck during these difficult economic times.”

The payment can be expected to arrive by the end of the year after lawmakers in Virginia’s General Assembly approved the relief payment some months ago, reports Marca.

  $500 one-time payment

Tax liability would be the key to receiving this payment, those taxpayers in Virginia that had tax liability last year will be sent this money.

Individuals who filed their taxes will receive a rebate of up to $250, while those who filed jointly could access up to 500 dollars, with the money being sent out a few months back.

Those who filed before July 1 deadline should’ve already received their rebate check by October 31, while those who filed on the November 1 deadline will have to wait for it to arrive in the weeks left this year.

Those who owe money could see a ‘lighter’ check

Individuals that owe money to government agencies and institutions could have money taken out of their rebate to pay their debt, as the state must satisfy the debt and send you the remainder in case there is one.

“If someone is eligible for a $250 rebate and they have $100 in court fines and fees, for example, that are in debt setoff, they will receive a check for $150,” Virginia tax commissioner Craig Burns explained.
