Farm and Food Workers in 15 American States Eligible for $600 Relief Payments

15 American States Eligible for $600 Relief Payments

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that farm and food workers in 15 states are eligible for one-time $600 relief payments. The payments are part of the Farm and Food Workers Relief Grant Program, created to help workers who incurred expenses preparing for, preventing exposure to, and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The eligible states are Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia. Workers in other states may also be eligible for relief payments but must apply through a different organization.

To be eligible for a relief payment, workers must have been employed as a farm or food worker in the United States between January 27, 2020, and the end of the incident period for the major disaster declaration related to COVID-19. They must also provide proof of employment, such as a pay stub or W-2 form.

Applications for relief payments opened on March 1, 2023, and will close on September 30, 2023. Workers can apply online at https://farmworkers.com/.

The Farm and Food Workers Relief Grant Program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) administers the program.

The $600 relief payments are a welcome relief for many farm and food workers disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The payments will help workers cover transportation, child care, and food expenses.

The USDA encourages all eligible farm and food workers to apply for relief payments. The application process is simple and can be completed online.
